Background
On March 6, 2010, Jon Shannon, who is usually extremely healthy, hadn’t been feeling well for a week so he went to a clinic where he was diagnosed with double pneumonia. He was immediately admitted into the ER. A day later, Jon was in the ICU, medically sedated and on a ventilator. He was diagnosed with Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome, or ARDS. Finally, after two months in ICU, Jon is now on the path to recovery in a rehab hospital where is working on regaining his strength before he can return home to his wife, Amelia, and their 17-month-old little boy, Judd.

Unfortunately, ARDS is not the only battle that Jon and Amelia are fighting. As a self-employed contractor, Jon has no means of income in his condition, and won’t for quite some time. The Shannons are now faced with not being able to cover their basic needs on Amelia’s salary alone. They have received much-needed support from family and friends since the crisis began, and they will continue to need help until Jon is back on his feet.
