Bellaire alums win $25,000 in funding from Facebook
Bellaire High School young alums Henry Tsai and David Li recently won a seed grant from Facebook's fbFund in which 25 winners were selected from a field of more than 600. Each winner received a $25,000 grant and mentorship from Facebook employees and investors. The New York Times article is here: link
Henry and David, now juniors at Stanford University, were awarded for their idea called Thankster. Thankster is a Facebook application that helps users show their appreciation for the people around them. Users send awards to recognize their friends and colleagues, and these awards are displayed and passed on to others.
The 25 winners also moved on to the next round of the competition. In this round, the top five teams—as selected by both=2 0users and the fbFund advisory committee—will get $225,000 each in funding. Henry and David are the only finalists who are still in college. They are up against incorporated established entrepreneurs and incorporated companies, many with full time employees. Help Henry and David by voting for them once a day at http://vote.thankster.net. |
